Ozone Therapy

Who is it for?
The majority of our patients choose ozone therapy because they need support with a specific condition - often as a compliment or alternative to conventional medicine. Others come because they see it as a powerful wellness therapy which may activate anti-aging pathways, help improve cognitive function, improve athletic recovery times, or gain an energetic boost.
Ozone
Ozone occurs in nature. It is a form of oxygen that has an unstable ‘third’ atom. It has been used therapeutically for over 100 years. Treatments improve oxygen utilisation which is beneficial for mitochondrial health (Konig & Lahodny, 2022).
What is Ozone Therapy?
The purpose of ozone therapy is to increase the amount of oxygenated blood circulating through the body. The most effective way to oxygenate blood is through the use of a digital ozone generator.
How is it administered?
This treatment is delivered via Major Auto-Hemotherapy (MAH). An IV line is inserted into the arm and approximately 200 millilitres of blood drawn. The drawn blood is infused with ozone and oxygen via a digital ozone generator and then returned to the body via the same IV line. This process is known as a one pass. Usually it is repeated three (3-pass), five (5-pass) or sometimes ten times in one treatment. The more passes you have for the 100-200ml of blood, the longer the treatment will take.
How will I feel afterwards?
Are there any side effects?
In our experience most people don’t experience side effects, although if they do, they are both short-lived and mild. It is overall a gentle therapy. Side effects that can occur are bruising at the needle entry site, phlebitis, dry or itchy eyes, light headedness or mild headache, mild irritation to the lungs and a slight urge to cough.
In some cases, IV ozone therapy can trigger a detoxification reaction (known as a Herxheimer reaction) which can include fatigue, headache, fever, chills, flushing, body ache and mild low blood pressure. A Herxheimer response is a natural bodily response that is triggered when endotoxins enter the blood stream. These endotoxins are released when microorganisms or bacteria are destroyed/die off. It is the immune system's response to this process that may result in the symptoms listed. This response is short-lived. In the unlikely event that you experience this response, we can recommend taking certain nutrients to help speed up the elimination of the endotoxins.
Some people report benefits immediately while for others it may take a few sessions as the cumulative effects become noticeable.
How many sessions do I need?
During your initial consultation we will discuss your health and recommend an appropriate number of treatments. In most cases treatments are performed once or twice a week.
For general health we recommend 3-5 sessions then a maintenance session every 6 months.
Sessions vary in length from 20-30mins for a 3 pass, 30-50 minutes for a 5 pass, and 60-90 minutes for a 10 pass.
Medicines/Contraindictions
IV ozone therapy is contraindicated against very few medications. However, before the first appointment we will ask for you details about of any medications you are taking.
It is not recommended for anyone taking an ACE inhibitor.
Other contraindications are:
GP6D deficiency, hyperthyroidism, thrombocytopenia, allergy to citrates (citrus) or heparin (applicable only to 10-pass therapy as it requires heparin during treatment), haemochromatosis, cardiovascular instability, active epilepsy, alcohol intoxication or pregnancy.

We would always recommend you consult your GP prior to starting any treatment.
